The official graphic identity for the 2020 Tokyo Summer Games was recently scrapped after accusations of plagiarism arose. A prominent, globally utilized, multi billion dollar licensing and identity program such as this is generally subject to intense scrutiny and vetting well prior to release. Sponsors had already started to leverage the abandoned mark. Image is, of course, everything, and the 2020 Games are off to a bumpy start, at least from a marketing, branding, and public relations perspective.
